It is wired but the wire is pretty long (roughly 18 feet) so it’s pretty versatile. I have liked it and have been impressed with the image quality. I have been using it for small animal so I can’t speak to how good it is for large animal. The plate size is 17x17 inches which is on the larger side. I like the larger plate, but something to consider when position it between a horse legs. There is a transferable warranty that has a little over 3 years left on it. The soft ware is suppose to do some degree of auto calibration based on species and equine is listed so hopefully that would make it more intuitive to use for large animal.
