Maintenance recommendations from the user manual are provided below. I purchased the 4-year extended warranty but never had a need for service or repair, especially with the low level of use in my mobile practice. I contacted Companion Animal Health this morning about the need for servicing and the need to ship it and their reply was,

"For your CTC-12, it is recommended but not necessary to have the unit calibrated yearly. If you are experiencing no issues it may not be necessary for you. If the unit is under a service agreement, calibrations may be included in the service. If it is not, calibrations can be costly based on what may be needed to bring your unit under specifications if it not currently. It will start with a $250.00 inspection to be paid up front. After inspection, a quote would be provided to you for the cost of the repairs service suggest. If you accept the quote, payment will be needed at that time for repairs to be completed. You would be responsible for shipping cost which is $25.00 for express saver, $50.00 for overnight. We would provide the shipping labels. You will also be responsible to pack your unit. We would recommend getting FedEx to box it up for you. A loaner unit would not be provided. Recalibrations could take between 2-4 weeks depending on the service it would need".

With proper care, the heads should not ever need to be replaced. Please note that the unit comes with a second set of four hand piece heads along with the second fiber cable that have never been used.

The unit does not record or display usage statistics. I estimate usage at about 79.5 hours based on the following:

  1. Going through clinic records, 251 appointments were seen using laser since the purchase.

  2. The typical laser patient was a 60-80# dog being seen for arthritis/DJD.

  3. Using the Arthritis setting for a 60-80# Canine of Average body type and Medium Coat Length/Skin Color/Coat Color.

  4. Thoracic spine, lumbar spine and both hips were commonly treated within the same appointment.

  5. Treatment time for thoracic spine is 2 min, 36 seconds

  6. Treatment time for lumbar spine is 5:14

  7. Treatment time for both hips is 5:25 x 2 = 10:50

  8. Calculated total treatment time is 18 minutes, 40 seconds

  9. 251 appointments x 19 minutes treatment time = 4,769 minutes = 79.5 hours
